Anybody who never behaves unpredictably, even quixotically, is not going to be in the top class of achievers, in the wider sense - as a family man, a friend, a politician, anything.
I don't mean in the sense of being boring - boredom is something I rarely suffer from and when I do I blame myself, and being predictable on a day to day level is fine, essential even up to a point.
I thought he did better than OK given what he took on, although I wouldn't be at all surprised to find he had the odd character defect - nobody's perfect. Putting his foot in it occasionally isn't even a fault in my book, if it was I'd be ashamed of myself.
