I think the reaction to BBC coverage is ridiculous and extreme, and the complaints to Ofcom merely spotlight the British habit of knowing a good bandwagon when they see one.
That said, I have been thinking about this.
I liked what I knew of Prince Phillip, I think he was a good man who gave a great deal in service of his wife and this country, including giving up his personal ambitions. He was an intelligent and lively individual with an excellent sense of humour. At times he struggled with his children, and I know just how he felt.
I never met him, but if I had I suspect that I would have liked him. He was his own man and did not conform to the standard of grey that most people prefer these days.
