I don't think my customer is that well informed. He just likes taking the michael out of the inability of our highly paid superstars to take a kick from the spot and put the ball in the net rather than into the stands or the hands of the goalie. He's not the only one.
On the other hand, it hasn't gone unnoticed that the oldest team in 2006 won the World Cup (Italy) against the second oldest team (France). This year, apparently, the England team qualifies as the tournament's coffin dodgers by having the highest average age (according to the press - haven't checked it myself).
Germans are astonished that despite the Premiership being the best national league in the world (and football fans here always follow the Premiership), England are always crap in international competitions.
