I'm not claiming to be an expert, but have had some success with electronic repairs in the past. I'll just look for the obvious first (dry joints, darkened components where they might have got hotter than they should, capacitors that have swollen metal cans) and go from there. I also have a capaticance meter at work to test any capacitors that don't "look" right.

I already have a set but not necessary as it's just held together with normal Philips screws. 4 holding it to the tower chassis. Then a couple more Philips screws to remove the PSU cover.
Had it apart before to clean the cooling fan and the PCB of dust build up, when I do an annual spring clean of the rest of the internals.
