The achievements stay, albeit subject to review and destruction/re-invention by young turks.
But the bodies?
My employer has consolidated it's HQ operation on one London site with several thousand employees. Pretty often when I go there I see faces not met in the last 15yrs. I'm sure I look just as much older but it's a dispiriting experience.
