 M25 J 10 - ORB>>
We left yesterday for a few days in Portsmouth.
All ok till approaching j10 clockwise. Then a long queue to exit to A3 south. Mea culpa for assuming road works over.
Searching for alternative routes home.

Pompey is my local city. Anything in particular drawing you here?

We've been before. Pleasant walks around Southsea for the dog. Nice pub , The Southsea village. Nice pint with pizza and burger. Doggy welcome..
Staying Travelodge Stanhope st. Car in carpark for 3 days. £15 for 3 days. Doggy welcome too.
Many years ago used to come to show friends Victory and the dockyard.

When we moved here 26 years ago, I wasn't a fan of the place. Since retiring I've got to know the bits I like and appreciate the city more. Often take the dogs to the Common as it's bereft of squirrels and cats which both my dogs like to meet.
As for avoiding J10, M27/M3, A27/M23. Both should be okay outside rush hour. For a more scenic route for the first leg, A3/A272/M23. Weather needs to be sunny to enjoy the 272.
Enjoy your stay.

Living near to J10, the roadworks have been the bane of our lives for over two years. couple that with extensive gas main replacements around our area, traffic has been a nightmare.,

When you use category Misc when starting a general discussion post in any of the forums you then don't need to select a random car make/model.

I've a daughter who lives in Epsom. I've used the train for the last couple of years!

Other daughter lives in St Neots which involves me using the Black cat. Took two hours to do a 24-mile round trip last week!

I live near J10. When there is a closure in place, I don't try to work out what is going to be open and what isn't. Just stay clear from Friday am to Monday pm.

It has been a pain in the proverbial for over two years now. The finish date has been put back to 2026 because of er, what, exactly?

Perhaps you should have taken the anti clockwise route via Heathrow?

And how would that have helped?
Roughly the same time indicated on the signage on the A12 just before the M25 J 28..
Still got to get off onto A3.

And add in the inherent delays and jams 14-11? and still have to get onto the A3?

We don't know where ORB is coming from in for t'routes committee to give him proper guidance.

In broad terms he's from East Anglia I think.

In which case rather like going to Dover from Northampton where we can go M1 and clockwise or A43/M40 and counterclockwise in nominally similar miles/time.

We don't know where ORB is coming from.

Orb, youngrovergirl and Blodwen live in Colchester.

An 8 minute walk to the hospital.
Directions home suggestions would be welcome.
Am considering Pompey Chichester and across the downs to Crawley then across to A22 up to M25 then tunnel and then A12 using the new j28 super loop exit.

M 3 towards Southampton, m27 to Portsmouth. Done it loads of times to catch the Brittany ferries to St Malo . Starting in west Essex.

M 3 towards Southampton, m27 to Portsmouth.
M3/M27 junction was closed at the weekend. Would still mean past J 10 M25 one way or suffer M25 j16 down plus the 50 mph section oh the M3 plus that vile junction onto it.
By using the Dartford tunnel I normally have the choices of the A roads South then onto A27..

Me I would crack south round the m25, off at J8 or 9, cross country across the downs to chichester* way and m27 into Pompey. *Lovely drive.

A3 to J10, M25 anti-clock, over Betty's bridge to the A12, then straight home to sunny Colchester, home.

Personally I would give the job to that nice Siri chap and do what he says.

Thinks. Did you say you were going out, or coming back?

I hope coming back, because using the Dartford Tunnel in the other direction would definitely not get my recommendation.
 M25 J 10 - ORB>>
So think we'll go from Portsmouth to Colchester A3 A272 and to A22.

My mother lived in South Essex and I have lived not far from Pompey on and off for about 15 years. If returning from Southsea I would go M27/M3 and clockwise via Heathrow and then off at the A12 back to Colchester.

With all the issues of the Dartford crossing, M25 repairs and now junction 10 I have driven both clock and anti-clockwise from both the A3 and M3 many times over the years, Assuming both routes are reasonably clear then going via Heathrow is about ten minutes longer, but it saves the potential problems of the Dartford crossing and a couple of pounds as well. Good luck whichever route you go.
 M25 J 10 Update - ORB>>
So, In the end, I took somw of the advice.
Portsmouth to A3 then turned off for farnham via Bordon up to M3 then M25 around and A12, Apart from 2 cery quick sets of roadworks on the Bordon bit, sailed quickly past Heathrow, bit slow before J25 M25 Truck and several cars... having a discussion !
Thanks for the suggestions.
