None of the three dishwashers I've owned had more than one section.
The first one had about five cycles:
1. A cold pre-wash.
2.3.4. The main wash - I could never work out why.
5. Final rinse, when I presume the rinse aid was dispensed.
I've never bothered with these so called triple action tablets that supposedly contain detergent, water softener and rinse aid in one. The machine's got a water softener and what's the point of dispensing rinse aid before the final rinse.
A neighbour was convinced that the salt in the dishwasher caused the damage to glasses and glaze until I pointed out to him it was for the water softener.
