We’ve got a few plates that have been in the dishwasher pretty much daily for thirty years. They were never high gloss but are glazed and now feel decidedly matt. Not really an issue in practice. Glasses vary in resistance to cloudiness but the top branded liquid based cleaners seem to be less abrasive than the old powders.
Each to their own but I can’t understand why anyone would not use a dishwasher they already have. They are more hygienic, cheaper to run in water heating and use comparatively little water. Hand washing in increasingly mucky water would not be my first choice. Even with just the two of us we get up to a reasonable load most days.
