I'm sure I read somewhere that it was no longer as easy to obtain due to concerns about its use for making homebrew explosive.

Citric acid BP - food grade is available in small pots in my local chemist but I was always asked " What is it for?"
I believe, as it is fine crystals, it is popular for cutting drugs.
In the past I have used it to make lemon squash.
