I get your point, the difference being the country where I am currently resident I have to register, pay taxes, basically the locals know if I am a good egg or not. They tolerate my bad local language so I must be paying a shed load in tax for them to put up with me and humor me.
Maybe it's a kick in the pants to Brussels that the more exposed borders require similar controls in place to ensure the less desirable in society does not make it through.
The problem remains Frau Merkel's open borders strategy this summer and the idiots from the EU haggling with Africa to take their nationals back. Ireland does not mess about, they stick them on a plane and leave it up to the destination to sort out based on the documentation the person has on them at the time.
