I hope I'm not boring anybody but saw these thugs on the news.There was camara footage clamping a disabled old lady taking over 300 pound of her.

Is there now a new law coming out and will it make any difference?

The so called Protection of Freedoms Bill is due it's 3rd reading in the Lords and subject any 'ping pong' with Commons will soon be law. Section 54 outlaws clamping. Much less welcome however are Section 56 and Sched 4 which allow enforcement of parking charges on private land against the keeper.

Provisions in Sc4 about ticketing and notices to keeper are similar but not identical to those governing council car parks. There are still gaps to be filled by secondary legislation and by setting up of a (privately/ sponsored and run) appeal mechanism.

Do you think it will be a inprovement the new law Brompt?

I have been lucky never had a problem with clamping..

Dutchie,

Provided it's enforced and provided there are no loopholes it should stop clamping on private land. Councils will still presumably have 'lawful authority' and clamp where it's justified.

The power to enforce parking fees on private land will turn round and bite the government's b*m.
