 CDW Insurance - Meldrew
I knew there was sense in investigating CDW insurance from people other than the car rental firm themselves. I have an Avis VW Golf in Austria for a week and they want £126 to insure a 790 Euro XS - insurance4carhire will do for it £4.75 a day or £49 a year. Easy choice! That said I have heard that some US car rental firms won't accept other people's cover. Not bothered as I shan't be going there

The company you mention rings a bell - might be who I used in May for our Tuscan holiday car hire.

In the past I took out the CDW via Holiday Autos (that was more like £2/day).... and had to use it because the car was written off.

I used them about a month after they went into business. I had a Punto in Italy; I scraped one of the silsl very badly on a "hidden" rock, somebody keyed it while it was parked overnight and somebody hit it while it was in a public car park. Hertz rightly took money of my credit card. I was refunded in about 4 weeks and my only small loss was the movement of the £ against the Euro in that time = well pleased!
