We have friends who live in Anglet (Biarritz, Anglet and Bayonne are really all one these days hence the airport is known as BAB), the Anglet beaches are better and you are more likely to find accomodation with parking and a short walk to the beach in Anglet. Anglet Ocean as they call it is only 5 mins by car from central Biarritz and only 30 - 40 mins to walk.
Can't help with specific accomodation because, as I say, we stay with friends, however if you dont take your own car a hire car is more than worthwhile being so close to the Pyrenees and the Spanish border, San Sebastian is worth a visit as are St Jean-de-Luz (coastal) and St Jean-de-Pied-de-Port (in the mountains). A hour's blast up the autoroute to Pau (also intereseting) makes the higher Pyrenean cols quite accessible, spectacular in the summer. Also Pamplona is not so far away, likewise the Rioja region of Spain is do-able in a day though a lot of driving.
If flying there are less flights from the UK into BAB these days though Bordeaux airport is only two hours or so (that's what we did this year) and some of the coast around Arcachon and southwards through the coastal Landes region can make the journey more interesting, though somewhat longer than the autoroute, including the Dune de Pyla, Europe's largest sand dune, quite spectacular.
If heading from Bordeaux airport to the autoroute south the head for Saint Jean-d'illac and join the A63 at Junction 24, likewise the reverse on the return, it avoids traffic and saves distance and time.
