When did the MOT certificate change? - spamcan61
Hello everybody,

SWMBO's Zafira* failed the MOT yesterday on knackered track rod end (eek) and ditto exhaust (not been changed since we bought it 7 years/70K miles ago). Both fixed today, the shiny new MOT certificate looks like something knocked up in 5 minutes on Word**. OK I realise in reality it's the database that matters, not the paper, but last year I got a proper certificate, I assume this is a countrywide change though?

* Now 11 years old, 152K round town miles

** Other word processing programs are available.

It changed a couple of months ago I think.
It does look cheap and nasty, I couldn't believe it was real at first.

5 minutes to know up in a word processor? Have you never used one before?

BTW if it is ''shiny new MOT certificate'' your test centre must be using better paper than my company does!

The MOT is an online process, so the certificate is worthless.

Technically you are right, but spamcan makes a good point. The new one would appear to be a doddle to fake, which gives carte blanche to unscrupulous sellers in the banger market. Not everyone would think to check it out on their computer, or even have one to do so.

I had noticed that as well when moting the wifes astra.

Also when did it change?
No emission print outs now.

I've had a coupla these.
I like it...at least you can read the expiry date now.......very poor contrast on the old ones.

For those that drive fancy new cars that don't need these things here's what a new MOT looks like:-

AFAIK

Blame the French, or the Germans for selling their system to the French.

I didn't think anyone would give Atos.

mmmm..

"government’s austerity measures announced earlier in the year....

...The initial phase to upgrade all sites with laser jet printers"

How many laser printers at what cost to save a few quid on stationery?????

Dump the certificate completely. No-one needs them, and buyers of second hand motors wont get fobbed off with a forgery.

I think I got one of the last green ones for the Mondeo on 3rd October (a month early to preserve the renewal date). Dad's C-Class estate had a new-style laser printer certificate issued the following week.

I've always used the sticky label that came with the green certificates. Although it doesn't show the date to the outside world, in my mind plod's less likely to have a nose around the car if one is displayed.

Me too, although the glue they use on the things is second only to dried out Weetabix for sheer tenacity. ;-)

A Stanley blade gets last year's one off. I also stick a slightly larger square of clear sticky-back plastic over the MoT sticker so I can clean the inside of the 'screen without destroying the paper.

Thats a tad OCD IMHO. Most of us use a diary.

I do like everything in the car to be "just so". I do the same with the tax disc, so I don't have to look at an oversized piece of advertising all year.

Just spent 2 hours cleaning it inside and out, it's back to spotless again.
