This is interesting and other bits of this type find there way onto beaches from time to time have you found anything like this or similar?

I found one of these on the beach at Southend in 1953.
Me mum wouldn't let me keep it...said I was too young and we didn't have room.

yes - at low tide you can walk out there, the channel is about a foot deep.
