I apologise that the link is from the Daily Wail but it has been reported in some real newspapers as well.
Summary.

Well you should. That too is a trashily written piece

You weren't an August baby by any chance were you??

You think that's good honest unbiased and undramatised reporting? Something you are proud to endorse?
|
>>You think that's good honest unbiased and undramatised reporting<<
No such thing, EVERBODY has their own agenda, lord knows where you dug up this idea that bias isnt an integral part of the British press.

.........................just like the B.B.C.

And 'The Independant' which is a moronic title for a paper that openly supports the Lib Dems.
|
>> .........................just like the B.B.C.
Do you have a better example of an unbiased TV and News organisation?
|
Oh dear, somebody got sucked in then.
|
Its not the press I have a problem with, its the people who believe its gospel as written.
|
Who says they do, apart from you?
What they write may be factually true, but the context is always suspect which is a given and with the Mail/Sun, you know theres something they have left out to reinforce the story, in the same way a left-wing paper leaves out details that dont help support their stance.
There will always be dumb people in the world chap, but they read rubbish from both sides of the spectrum.
|
>> Who says they do, apart from you?
Well they wouldn't propagate, and post it as examples of what they think represents their view would they.
|
>>You think that's good honest unbiased and undramatised reporting? Something you are proud to endorse?<<
TBH Z - I only 'run through' the tabloids just to see what they're trying to tell us today,
My wife though, often comes into contact with the feral underclass in conjunction with her legal work,
More wasted £millions that would be better spent on heating the homes of the more deserving poor.

Usual concise prose from The Sun.
Short sentences, easy to read, and no wasted words.

Dear Moderators
Is there any chance at all that someone could insert the second "L" in "traveller"
Pretty please?
|
Not known for your tact and diplomacy then Duncan:)
Pat

Sorry Pat.
Was I being rude? Not my intention, but that sort of error does grate.
Perhaps I am alone? I wonder?

Does it make it incomprehensible in some way?

No apology needed Duncan, it just made me chuckle:)
Typical man, could have hit the report post button and asked discreetly that way and no-one would have known!

Well, it seems to have had the desired effect - at least in part!
Thank you VX Fan.

Quite Duncan. 'We are all Americans now.'
Not.

That's the reason I gave to SWMBO for refusing to see 'the time traveler's wife'.
If they can't spell it right, what's the script like?
;>)

You go to the pictures to read the script? That's the actors job surely?

Odd reason not to watch a film
Right decision though - terrible film

Do you want me to change the 'z' in apologize to an 's' as well?
;o)

Yes, might as well, whilst you are at it ;-)

All councils in Wales - apart from the democratic republic of Anglesey have a Traveller Liaison Officer - I have it on reasonable authority that it paid dividends during the recent Dale Farm thing where they liaised with the local Travellers and managed to gain some good intel. This is Mailofever.
|
When the pedants have finished duffing each other up with rolled up newspapers could I hear what people think about the events described, in whatever paper they read or quote!
|
the trouble is the events are not clear because the mail has somehow managed to mix a 54 ton fly tipping story into the mix.
The facts appear to be they have a legal right to stay there, as per a 2009 court order.
|
If the council are stupid enough to pay out for a toilet block for people who decide to just squat on land then more fool them and even more fool the people who elected them, once the present non travellers have finished with it they'll smash it up...unless and surely they must have guessed this, once they have toilets etc it becomes a semi permanent site, it is already but amenities rubber stamp it, there'll be a dozen vans there soon.
If they want to defecate and live in filth on their own doorstep let them, i really couldn't give a toss what squalor people who deliberately behave in anti social ways live in, it's their own choice, if they chuck it over the fence get a JCB in and shovel it back.
If people decline to support the system by paying a proportionate amount towards it's upkeep if able, the system has no reason to support them.
If we're trotting out the 'uman rites tosh again, stick a manky portaloo on the site, they are apparently good enough for blokes that work hard on contract or road building sites all day long and good enough for people paying to visit outdoor concerts etc.
That's my opinon Melders..;)

110% agreement GB! They could always squat in their toilet block, if you know what I mean! I buy toilet blocks @ 50p each in Tesco but I guess they aren't the same ones.
|
RP,
So Swansea probably had a Traveller Liaison bod before (or in spite of) these characters rocking up by the, then lower division, footie club. I have a friend who did a similar job in an Inner London Borough - very hard work indeed.
And the Sun story roughly amounts to legal firm takes on government contract to represent defendants and gets paid for it?
|
This is Mailofever.
>>
Maybe so but the general content of the report is factually accurate. I drive down that way every week to deliver to a merchant, what you see in the picture is an improvement on what it was.
These people just are just thumbing their noses at the council, which itself is so up its own backside with PC that they're scared to do anything about it.

It might grate, but in fairness to Meldrew (I think it was he) it's not wrong.
Too much idle chattering at school I expect ;-)

Done it before I read the rest of the thread...sorry :-(

Done - with some difficulty! The steps of the menu are not instinctive

At £90k for a toilet block I would expect it to have aluminum fixtures and fittings.

Chambers is happy with apologize and apologise. No apology required.
