I wonder if the damage to the passenger side windscreen of the Range Rover was done by something hitting it from the outside, or a head-butt from the inside.

Driver said the Sun blinded him...I can appreciate that. My regular trip involves driving to the end of our road and turning right onto a major road. There's a slope up to a bridge ..about 50 yds and at certain times of the morning at this time of the year the Sun is almost on the road.

Cars come out of the Sun at speed. I often don't bother if it's a clear day, especially if the road is wet. I just go a different way round. A bit further but more comfortable than taking a risk.

I know that Burger van well, she does and excellent bacon roll and is spotlessly clean.

What a lucky escape she had.

The burger van wasn't moving though. And looking at the shadow, the sun wasn't directly ahead of him when the picture was taken, and would have been further to his left when the accident happened. A very nasty one too.

Happens here, on the stretch outside the house, sometimes on a winter's morning that the sun is plumb in front and unless the screen is completely clean and clear it can be impossible to see. I've never considered driving on blindly and hoping for the best - I have to stop, clear or clean the screen, polish sunglasses, adjust sun visor, or whatever.

Police were later said to be grilling the driver.

Apparently the vehicle was going too fast...it had been chipped.

Evidently the driver later said he lost control and wished he'd had the suspension beefed up.

It seems that, earlier that day, a Range Rover fitting the description, had illegally parked outside a bakery, sped past the local sausage factory and knocked a French onion seller off his bicycle. Police said the driver was on a roll.
