Road surface noise. - henry k
Recent resurfacing of several roads here in Surrey has been most welcome.
It is so so quiet driving on this surface that it is almost eerie.
As a pedestrian the lack of noise is an added risk to some, it is almost as if all cars were now at Prius level of noise.
Is this surface being introduced country wide ?
(The road nearest me that had been treated had the surfaced planed off prior to the magic layer.)

On the other hand the A3 was recently "re- engineered" by the Hook underpass ( near Surbiton) and the noise level is very much higher.

We still of course have the potholes :-((

It's especially effective on the motorway. Have you noticed that blinding road spray has all but disappeared except on the occasional bit of elderly tarmac or concrete?

The road outside my house, the B265, has been resurfaced in stages, in the last three years with this new quiet road mix and what a difference it has made. Mind you I have to be more careful when crossing the same, as traffic can creep up on you in eerie quietness.

This is just one of the reasons I hate concrete motorways.

Yes, they last longer but the noise from the ridges and the expansion joints is simply intolerable, both to car passengers and nearby residents.
