Citroen C3 - Another tyre question; will I notice XL rating? - hawkeye
Good morning all.

Mrs H's new Citroen C3 has tyres originally load/speed rated 88T. I ordered replacements from mytyres and they emailed me a confirmation that they would supply what I ordered. They have sent me the right size but load/speed rated 92H extra load. I am concerned that the extra load rating will alter the ride quality significantly so I spoke mytyres (Delticom) and asked for them to be changed to 88T but apparently this is not possible.

It's keep the tyres or get a refund. I thought XL tyres were for vans.

Will we notice the XL rating because the tyre carcass is beefier or should I just get them fitted and all will be well?

Just my opinion H but I'd fit and forget. Some people notice differing ride quality with different tyre makes and I think the change to XL will be no more or less noticeable. I've just fitted a new set on the C5 which has a superb ride.... old tyres were standard load rating and new are XL... can't tell the difference.

My new Nokians from Mytyres are 92H XL, should be 88H, no probs though, ride is better if anyfink.

Nope, they also fit XL rated tyres to the diesel engined Vectra-C as well.

The CC3 is specced for extra load tyres because of its extra weight.

I agree the OP will notice little or no difference.

That bit of extra strength won't hurt should you drop in an unseen pot hole or similar, or should you load it to the gunnels for a trip.

If there's a choice between normal and XL or indeed if H rated is specced and V's are the same price, then there's no harm in getting the better, stronger or higher grade product.

It's when people underspecify the problems start.

Oddly enough the little C2 VTS is specced for 91V which are the higher load tyres, definately not a weight issue there, probably safer for the higher speed and presumably heavier cornering potential.

I don't think XL is van standard, they usually have a C (commercial?) rating....6 or 8 PR (ply rating) in old money.

Thanks for your valued input. I'll stop fussing and keep the tyres.

You're not fussing.

I can't summon gb's enthusiasm for tyres, but it's not something you want to get wrong or take chances with.

Surprised you didnt notice a difference in price. When I was shopping around for new tyre last week the XL rated equivalent in my size was £20 or £30 dearer. I stayed with the ordinary.

Have to have reinforced tyres on the Sharan - 97 load IIRC
