I am no economist but £2billion to get it on stream, peak production of 120K barrels a day and all almost in the Antarctic doesn't look too good and what is that production, as a proportion of World demand? I know every little helps but this seems to be very little.Whatever it does it won't result in cheap petrol!

Being a cynical old sod I have always suspected that oil was behind our determination to keep the Falklands. One day oil will be so expensive that it will make economic sense to extract it.

ON -you and I may live to see that day! Oil used to be $7 a barrel and petrol 12.5 p a gallon (1950s). Now oil is around $115 a barrel and we can still fly to most of Europe for £100 return and Australia for £750 return. The economics baffle me!
