I bought my current car about 3 months ago from a franchised dealer and I have just received a letter from a company called RetainaGroup advising me that the car is still recorded on the International Security Register (ISR) in the name of the previous owner. My car's windows are etched with the ISR code number and their phone number. They are inviting me to register my ownership and contact details with them for a one-off fee of £21.
Anybody know anything about them?

Yea its one of theses things that were haded out free or sold by the dealer at first registration. usually for expensive or oft stolen vehicles.
This has soome irony behind it, its designed to act as a deterent, and even tho you are not paying for it, it still will. The thief is not to know its not updated is he!

That was exactly my reaction but I thought that I might be missing something.

I also tried to update my name but then was put off by £20 charge they demanded.
The car is still mine because ownership details are based on DVLA records and not what some 3rd party security register holds.

I don't think so. I believe the only proof of ownership would be a receipt.

Well, er... I do have the receipt too.
But what if the receipt is lost or the car was gifted?
