I once looked at a batch of cotton-reinforced L-Rover 80" Series 1 Dunlop cross-plies that the MOD had just released from it's store. [It had been c.50 years since they got rid of their last Series 1, so they obviously reckoned there was now little chance that they might need them.]
They were made in the mid-50s and were in "as new" condition as they had been stored inside a warehouse, spiral-wrapped in waxed paper. [Not the one that caught fire - obviously.]
Tyres that sit in the sun, under load and little used [like caravans] are the biggest problem - those may be scrap after only 3 years.
