I received a mail shot from Amazon offering me 30 days 'free' LOVEFILM membership,
If I take up their offer, I can claim a 'free' £20 Amazon gift certificate,
(1) Is there an arf decent availability of Blu Ray films on LOVEFILM?
(2) I've always been a 'Sony Man', but my 2 telly's are Panasonic, as is my microwave, my phone, my bread machine,
So I'm a Sonic Man really ... any recommendations for Blu Ray players?
Obviously I'll use the £20 'free' gift certificate from Amazon :)

We got a Toshiba Dog, same make as the Telly.
I think it was about 120pounds.Nice picture watch a film one's in a while.

>> We got a Toshiba Dog, same make as the Telly.
Didn't realise Toshiba make K9s.

Lovefilm has plenty of Blu-ray discs. As a bonus, they're generally in much better condition than their DVDs - it used to be a special occasion when a DVD played faultlessly from beginning to end; no such problems recently.

I run a Sony BDP-S370, The newer model S380 is an astonishing 94 quid on Amazon.
Mine is network connected with Iplayer, Yutube, 5OD etc. Picture quality is brilliant.

Yeah, I've been a'reading that the upscaling on ya old DVD's is good on the Sony player,
Do you get any whirring noises from the unit at all, at all?

Get a playstation 3 dog, you won't have any problems with unsupported discs that have been released after your bluray player was manufactured.
It does lovefilm too, both choosing stuff from the bluray catalogue to be posted out and playing films online too.
It's also got iplayer, channel4 od, itv player.
There's a £33 dongle called playtv that you plug a standard aerial into and it works as a pvr for recording shows etc.
You can get the remote as well, looks just like a tv remote and it means you don't need to use the playstation controller, it works with all the functions of it too, bluray, playtv etc.
It'll play anything on your Pc over wireless network or I'd recommend some powerline adapters as wireless is slow for hd films streamed off the Pc, but wireless is fine for sd movies or music etc.
It also has a hard drive so you can store films / music / photos on it too. You can plug your digicam or digital video camera in too and do light editing for the movies etc.
There's the webcam attachment which we've used with friends in oz a few
Times. Works better than skype for them, no difference for us though.
And of course with a copy of gran turismo 5 you can set a new record at the nurburgring in whatever takes your fancy, did you not have a supra once? Nice!

We picked up an LG HR650 last weekend tinyurl.com/6g5xb29 (John Lewis link)
3D capable Blu Ray plus PVR with HD and wired/wifi networking. Easy to set up & programme - recorded the Tour de France faultlessly. HiDef Wimbledon was certainly better than standard (no analogue now). But am I wearing the old rose tinted when I think it's no better than analogue was on a 625 line CRT?
The wi fi is particularly good for 'listen again'. We can catch up on radio in the lounge without messing around connecting a laptop.
|
>>Get a playstation 3 dog<<
Interesting Skoda, I hadn't thought of taking that route and although I don't play games (well, not that sort:) it could well be worth considering for the other facilities you mention such as the iplayer + the PVR with a dongle.
I must tell you about my Jays ... I feed the wild birds daily with handfuls of seed + 3 nut feeders, well - I have a 'couple' of Jays that have had some chicks recently, and they are quite stunning and very amusing,
When the wind blows , their hair stands up and they look just like punk rockers :o}
Any way, I've also checked out what hi-fi, and the Panasonic DMP-BDT110 seems to be a goer at £116 on Amazon.
Lastly, being I'm a neurotic asperger with add/adhd/ac/dc etc., etc., I've read some reviews of Blu Ray players where peops have complained about a whirring noise in use on some of these machines - I couldn't be having any of that though - that's the main reason I off loaded my PVR in favour of a 'graded' LG DVD recorder (£50) which is still going strong.

>> But am I wearing the old rose tinted when I think it's no better than analogue was on a 625 line CRT?<<
We bought a Humax Foxsat HD box a few weeks ago, but whenever I check what SWMBO is watching, it's always the SD channels instead of using the HD ones ... I reckon if I replaced the telly with a B&W 405 lines jobby, she wouldn't notice :-D
|
>> but whenever I check
>> what SWMBO is watching, it's always the SD channels instead of using the HD >> ones
Both my wife and my mother do this. They seem to have some kind of mental block about there being HD channels. I grab the remote, and change 101 to 143. They think it's me that's mad. And it's the wife who wanted the big HD telly to start with! I'll never understand them.
|
>>I'll never understand them.<<
Where would we be without them ... well, QVC would go bust for starters!
|
A friend of Nicole, wait for it, records QVC on the Humax!

Not a terrific pic I know, it's through glass and with max zoom, there were 4 Jays there (til they saw me!)
|
Thanks for that, never seen a baby Jay before. They're glorious birds, not many round my way, last time I recall seeing one was near the Bongo Freindee specialist on the Indian Queens - Newquay road.
edit:Think I mean St. Columb Major not Indian Queens.

They are quite unusual birds, from the Crow family I believe - we luv watching their antics, morning, noon & nite.

Lots of ads. on't telly for the DVD of The Adjustment Bureau. I got via bit torrent, watched it last night.
IMO don't bother.
|
This is my kinda film ~ www.sonypictures.com/movies/2012/ is it available on LOVEFILM yet I wonder?
|
1) Yes it's available as DVD or Blueray
2) it's a pretty poor film
|
>> it's a pretty poor film<<
Is it, well there ya go! I enjoyed Independence Day and the remake of War of the Worlds,
I did start watching the remake of The day the earth stood still on the telly recently, but the ads give me the twitch :(
|
Another one of your kind of film Dog is the day the earth stood still.
Its' in blue ray a remake, actor Keanu Reeves. Not a bad film was watching it the other day.
|
>>Another one of your kind of film Dog is the day the earth stood still.<<
Yes. it was on the box recently Dutchie but - I'd rather have a root canal filling than put up with those adverts!!
That's why (for me/us) Lovefilm rental will be worthwhile.
|
"I enjoyed Independence Day and the remake of War of the Worlds,"
Both better films than 2012. Don't mind an action film myself but a little bit of storyline is nice to have. 2012 is just things blowing up. Kind of tedious. Saw it on holiday two years back.

But they make a godawful noise Dog. Like nails across a blackboard. Clever, like all members of the crow family.

KACK!, KACK!, KACK!
I swore I'd never 'take out' another Magpie (or Penguin as my bro with Alzheimer's calls them) but they keep making the Jays & Doves scatter and fly into my windows!
Perhaps a drone attack could be on the menu ;}
EDIT: 7 Jays, outside, right now!
