 Tennis. - Roger.
Thank God it's about finished.
I have managed to avoid most of it: men's finals took up most of my siesta!

I'm ahead of you there Roge - I managed to avoid all of it.

+2 or 3 as neither of us can stand it.

I quite enjoy watching tennis although I've never been any good at playing it. At least points get scored on a regular basis. Watching football is far more liable to induce catatonia. That can drag on interminably without either side achieving anything and is generally commentated on by people who might be charitably described as being not entirely the brightest crayons in the box.

Well then you missed some of the best sport you will likely to see this your on television this year. Not a big sports fan myself but I do like to watch the major events and tennis could be made for TV. Tennis must be one of the most punishing sports to play and this year men's finals in particular was a superb and engrossing game

TBH, I thought todays mens Final never really ignited as a contest, certainly wouldn't rate it as one of the best, not even a good one. Having said that tho, its still one of the best live events going.

They seem to be proper athletes, quite prepared to carry an injury to win and respect their fans. Clearly not football "stars"

And thank God we have more than one TV.

I was lucky to get fed. :-)

But the greatest athletic event of them all finishes in Paris three weeks today.

Is that the one that has had a drugs raid on a team bus?

Indeed, the finest athletes modern chemistry can produce

Or the only sport that carries out proper testing of competitors.

I was talking to a former pro cyclist last year and he pointed out a few household names from the world of football who he reckoned were showing all the signs of doping. I obviously can't name names, but they weren't all foreigners either.

because of the wide spread use of doping.

he said they were dopes.

I can take it or leave it. Herself digs it though. So does my second oldest friend, a car man but a fanatic for all sport encluding boxing (another brutefest about to happen or just happened or happening as I write, dunno, not my shtick).

I am a primitive about these things really. I hoped vaguely that the Scot would win but he didn't again. I was quite pleased Nadal lost but herself likes him and thinks the Scot has an unpleasant personality.

They nearly all have if you ask me. Nadal rabbited on like a woman whose baby has been stolen and the winner looked a right little hobbledehoy too. May next year be slow in coming.

I can't help theorising that Andy Murray's mother will have spent the weekend humiliating him and beating him. If he has a personality disorder, and indeed I feel he probably does, she on the other hand strikes me as a real life Cruella D'Ville. Something about the set of the jaw I always think.
 Tennis. - R.P.
Someone told me that he was at Dunblane primary school the day of the shootings, that would be reason enough for someone to grow up a bit bitter and twisted.

My lad is the spitting image of Andy Murray. He seems to have coped with it ok tho.
 Tennis. - Ted

I can't be doing with it either. It just seems to me to be a sport where sheer brute force will overcome skill.....I don't really understand all the grunting and carrying on.

There are some pretty girls, mind.....Shades of Miss Joan Hunter-Dunn !

I went off it when I used to watch the Test match and it was always interrupted by Wimblingdon...not fair !

Cricket? Now there's a game which is even more effective than counting sheep...

Murray is indeed a Dunblane survivor, PU.

I think we focus too much on personality, it is easy to get a wrong impression of someone when they constantly have a microphone stuck in their face with the same stupid questions to answer over and over again, particularly just after a game.
 Tennis. - Armel Coussine
I don't have sadistic feelings towards Andy Murray. He's a bit gauche but who isn't? Is his mother the tennis mom from helll? A handsome lady in a particular way.

No doubt she will be kind to him and urge him to perfect his game. So will his quite winsome squeeze one hopes. That's what he needs to do after all, for next year. And all the gongs and cups to be won before then.

But I don't care much. What will be will be, even in top professional tennis.

Well I may be opening myself up here to some ridicule but:

I can't stand football, full of a load of overpaid pre-madonas. However flicking through the channels the other night I cought the higlights of the Womens World Cup, England v New Zealand. Plenty of movement, skill and goal mouth action. Proper soccer. I was entertained.

Yeah right. Sorry Womens football is a bit of a joke really. Slow, awkward, ungainly.
 Tennis. - Fullchat
Told you I know nothing about football.
 Tennis. - Zero
I think you may have been attracted by a couple of its unique features not found in the mens game.
 Tennis. - Runfer D'Hills
I don't especially like football either FC but I would tend to agree with you about the women's game. It's especially good if there's a close up of a player running towards the camera and you slow it all down to about half speed...

Do they swop shirts at the end ?
 Tennis. - Ted

Oh my God...We need Pat back to give you lot some slapped legs !

Now, women's cricket...the pure white pads strapped around muscly calfs....time for a cold shower !

Some of us are old enough to remember Anne Haydon who had a magnificent frontage, and before the days of sports bras!
