Just been outside to watch the ISS fly past at 17,000mph, 191 miles above Earth.
It's passing over the UK this week, and can be seen 3 or 4 times most nights between sunset and sunrise. Sighting times here: 1.usa.gov/3dSyX8
Next flypast is just after quarter to one am.

Thanks Dave - good tip. I now discover that NASA offers a free iPhone app to match its route data to the phone's location for a tailored chart of sighting opportunities, complete with direction and elevation. 2209 tonight, in my case, with a better, higher one at 2344. Pity it's cloudy today.
There's also a total eclipse of the moon tonight.

Should be worth watching.

Seen the ISS from here on a few occasions, it transits pretty much west - east and directly over head.
On the odd clear night when I happen to be out with the dog seen it quite clearly from here regularly.

I think I can just about make Dave in this photo and it looks as if the lights were burning late in iffy towers !

I see electric light hasn't made it to North wales yet.
No need for such modern rubbish.

Just went out and with a pretty clear sky watched the space station go by...thanks for the link
00.19 Clear as a bell and bang on time. Maybe they should run the trains :-)
It was quite eerie to watch in the stillness of the night with no noise.
Likewise thank you for the link.

Its going to reenter earth atmosphere at some time, not sure I fancy 12 coaches of HSS intercity tumbling out of a clear blue sky.

Last decent opportunity for 6 weeks is coming up in 10 minutes (10:21pm, east midlands UK). ISS rising in W, setting in SE, maximum elevation 30deg, duration 5 minutes.
Yeeehaw!
I saw it!
Thanks for the heads-up.
>> I saw it! Thanks for the heads-up.
Couldn't ask for better weather conditions, could you?
Not in the N.E.Midlands (nearly Yorkshire!): almost hot today - around 28C!
I was waiting to see this again, and it was nice all day until tea-time, and then it clouded over and poured down!! Dammit!
Back in our area again. Just had random sighting of it passing over West to East.
Back over at 00.03 tonight and 21.29 and 23.05 tomorrow (East Yorks).

Just seen it, just looked like a very bright UFO, looked like a star but much brighter and moving far too fast.
Really need a telescope to get a proper sighting of it.
Indeed, a lovely clear sighting over Leics ar 22:27 tonight. It's visible from the UK at sensible times every night for the next week, cloud permitting of course.

Thanks Dave, I was out with the dog and missed, really clear night on Anglesey tonight and we live in a village with very few street lights....try again over the weekend !
Pure luck, just glanced out of the window and it was passing overhead - brilliant.
I've just been out with our dog along the canal towpath. It's great isn't it. People don't shy away from you in the way they do if your a bloke walking on your own. Some of them even talk to you. It's as if having a dog absolves you from the probability of being an axe-murderer. If I was to take up axe-murdering though I'd buy a dog. Make it much easier to lull my victims into a false sense of security.

First class prop....a licence to wander. How is the lad ?
Good thanks in almost every way. Still doesn't like car travel though.
Have you tried travel pills yet ?
No, vet wasn't keen on that idea. Just confining him to "her" car for now...
:-)

>> Good thanks in almost every way. Still doesn't like car travel though.
Still projectile vomiting and pooing?
>> Yes, 'fraid so.
>>
How old is the Pooch. What model etc.
20 weeks. Terrier cross. ( Sealyham / Lucas ) Great wee guy.
Early days yet methinks. Does he get rushed about (we all have busy lives) except that N. Wales chap and Zeddo of course. Then there's Henry and Perro and........................most of them, but I digress. A calm dog is usually a happy dog and the old trick of feeding them in the car may work well, but losing ones temper will (may) cuff things up for life. If and only if he takes to that get him to keep having some meals in there this time with the engine running. Be HIS mate. Dogs are ruddy marvellous when it is all going well, but.................
Good luck.
And of course he is very very young. Usually worth all the effort though. They love back and don't go shoppin'!!

A dog is a license to do LOADS of things. used the "walking the dog" excuse to explore a disused RAF bomb store couple of weeks back!

Dont go near single men with a greyhound...!
Really? Why? And if it's another sordid symbolic thing how do you know?
:-)
It is sordid, and I wont tell you how I found out, just take it from me, Single man, Greyound, pink collar, walk the other way,,,,,
Bloke round here has two. ( Greyhounds ) Must check the collars out. He's a bit of an old hippie really. Long hair, looks a bit spaced most of the time. Pleasant enough.
Best UK sighting of the week coming up tonight at 22:06 (give or take a minute): 5 mins duration, 70deg max elevation, tracking from due West to due East.
Wont see it here! - tis like midwinter, clouds on the rooftop, blowing a gale and lashing down! typical Cumbria!!
Even better tomorrow - bright passes at 21:09 and 22:45
just gone by. Clearly visible for several minutes from around 45 degrees elevation in spiteof light cloud.
Tell us when
a: its not gone by on schedule
b: Its in a different orbit
c: is far brighter than normal
d: has crashed in your back garden,
failing that you'll be giving us reports three times a week for the next thirty years ;)
