Spotted a car today a old escort being pulled over by a unmarked volvo estate but as i went past slowly due to everyone in front having a good gawp, There was a sticker on the back windscreen large enough to fit most of the screen saying un insured car or words to affect.

Is this a new system by the police to fit these stickers when they pull over a uninsured car?

Might be better to print some in Russian, Polish, cheq, Latvian etc too.

Not seen it myself but there appears to lots around

Dorset police -
"Impounded cars were emblazoned with a big sticker bearing the slogan "No insurance, no car!" before they were taken away."

Multiple stickers :-))

Thanks for those links so it's been in force since 2005 and this is the first one i have seen.!

Then again car stickers id probaly think it's a for sale sign and choose to ignore it.

Does these get scrapped as they should?

There was one on a car up a side street by B&Q in Northampton the other week. Police were also around but not in any number and my assumption was that they were 'exhibiting'. Perhaps I just missed the ANPR camera which might have been further back by the gasworks roundabout.

IIRC from the various police TV programmes.

Driver gets a fine etc.

Car is removed to a pound. Cost £100+ and £10-20 per day storage.
Somebody with valid insurance can collect it.
I assume it must have Tax and MoT certificate ( if required).

Needless to say some of these heaps are never collected so they are off to the scrap yard.

There is a 3-4 year old Golf GTI parked on full display outside of Stretford Cop shop, the car must be worth about £7-9k but there is big stickers on it saying "this car was seized as the driver had no insurance".

Clearly it is parked there as a warning that it dosn't matter how much your car is worth if you have no insurance the cops will take it.

New Lambo off an obscure footballer is our best one so far. Also had a Bentley GT off somebody who was most put out that we didn't know he appeared in a soap. Never heard of him.

No doubt they claimed that they had "people who did did these sort of things for me".

I assume no pick up truck was available and you had to drive the Lambo away yourself??? :)

Bedford nick used to have a poster in the front desk area (c.2004) showing an uninsured, unclaimed, very expensive Honda S2000 actually in the crusher...

along with every other language in the world? I think you will find that drivers of all nationalities are tempted to avoid insurance, not just east Europeans.

I suspect visiting "working" Europeans are a big problem - common market/on your bike and all that.

Far too many Eastern Europeans here with no care in the world and they do as they like, and play the card as they don't quite understand the rules.

Yes print the signs in there language and fine them better still send them packing.!

According to the many police blogs, the E.E.s are lovely, hardworking people by and large - although sadly with no understanding of the drink drive laws in this country.

>> send them packing

A bit strong, that.

No it's not be firmer with the law in this country if the break it get them out of here send them back and get the message across.

Were far to polictically correct and soft in this country if they break the law kick them out.

If uk born scrap the car and fine the individual.

Im next for prime minister do i get your vote?

I remember having a chuckle last year when the police crashed a Lancer confiscated from a drink-driver. Apparently the bloke was quite upset - "how dare they!" etc - but I feel that letting someone else thrash your pride and joy for a bit if you're caught drink driving is probably a good deterrent.
