As some of you may have seen in another thread, Manatee and myself live not a million miles from each other, and are considering meeting in a pub in Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire.
I was wondering if anyone else may like to join us?
Firstly post here, then make contact via the mods?

Sounds potentially interesting. I could make a Tuesday or Wednesday evening (most weeks).

How about somewhere nearer the middle of the UK like Carlisle?

>> How about somewhere nearer the middle of the UK
Seems like there are several places laying claim to be the "middle":
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centre_points_of_the_United_Kingdom
The one near the MIRA test track is handy for me, not so convenient for those at the foot of the M40 though.

OK, Cumbria (the lake district) seems to be a pleasant area near the middle of the UK.

I'm open to the idea of other venues... or maybe even a few meets?
|
|
Maybe even Cumbria at some point....

I suspect little island mentality, allergic to distance. :-)

Pat's PDA Training Day next month in Cambs could be a pseudo-C4P meet, as it was last year.
www.car4play.com/forum/post/index.htm?t=6351
Unfortunately I can't make it again, as children aren't allowed on site and it's not practical for me to scud halfway around the country dropping my daughter off with her mum for the day first :(
I'll always put t'kettle on for any roving C4Pers in my neck of the woods, I'm 10 mins from junction 22 of the M1. Parking's safe here in the daytime, when all the local tykes are either at school or else still asleep :)

Don't they hold a hill climb meeting in that neck of the woods? Once a year IIRC.

Found it. Kop hill climb 24/25 Sep.

Kind offer, Dave.
Might take you up on that.
I use that stretch of the motorway occasionally.
Rather get a brew from you for nowt than pay three quid at the service station.
Free broadband as well, I take it?
You have to compete for business these days.

>> Free broadband as well, I take it?
Tch, go on then.
|
>>I suspect little island mentality, allergic to distance. :-)
I wouldn't mind travelling a fair distance, but it would be an asset if the chosen venue was near to a railway station, a decent B & B or hotel, and a good curry house. I rather fancy the south east, and the chance of meeting some of our more controversial posters.
Didn't PG, on the other forum, mention a meet a few years ago? I don't think it was particularly successful as only three members turned up. Could be worth another try, though.
|
Yes - Polo Girl and I organised a meet in Hampshire and then she didn't turn up herself, so there were only 3.
Didn't someone on here suggest a meeting near Wokingham last year? It never happened as far as I know. I think many people prefer the friendship to stay 'virtual'!
|
IIRC HJ organised several meets within the the M25
I attended the one at The Red Lion Barnet, from memory about 15 people turned up. I believe there was also one at the Ace Cafe on the North Circ (A406)
As a mark of respect to history we could all turn up suitably dressed tinyurl.com/fedoraHJ

I thought the Ace Cafe meet was organised by someone else, and HJ turned up along with a few other people? There used to be a link to some photos someone uploaded. I suspect they've either been deleted or the site they were on has expired.

Ah, they got put on the replacement site

There was also a link to the 1st BR meet. I think that was the one that's expired or deleted.

Is anyone on that Ace Cafe shot still here in C4P?
The first get together might have been in South London and was attended by, amongst others, HF (abbreviated from Helpless Female).
|
|
Bromptonaut, I was trying to spare someone's blushes by not mentioning too much about the 1st BR meet, or who the attendees were.

Fraid so.

Good lord, If I wore dreadful shorts and shirts like that I would have to buy myself a bride.

Z
The Laguna looks in pretty good shape really. I do not remember seeing the photos at the time.
|

The kind of hit it took meant it was able to move around and bounce out of the way.

But make sure you're allowed to bring her into the country before parting with money? :-)
|
Some great photos there and blasts from the past.
Wonder what happened to the likes of Adam (Adamski), Blue, SJB etc?
Maybe Adam is happily settled down with Pologirl and their 2.2 children :)

Peter probably wouldn't have organised anything. A mod would have. Mods ran the HJ forum until early 2010 and the trust ran out.

Looking at the gong awarded to pmh above, surely it bears the question is HJ watching and registered on this forum:)

Despite living further west a meet in that area would suit me.
|
I expect many of us are ambivalent about the idea of a meet, but might turn up if it wasn't too far.
There's no easy solution, I know of a handful of members near me, but unless you can guarantee 100 per cent attendance, it's not going to work.
Of course, there could be members near me that choose not to post regularly, but it's fair to assume they would be even less interested in a meet.
|
|
Which is why I suggested meeting at an event.
|
Why meet? It is far better to remain anonymous :-)

You may be right, but I'll pop round later to discuss it further.

That's an old blind date trick, I am told. You didn't see her, but she saw you. :)

I didn't even suggest I'd be turning up. ;>)

Ditto.
I wonder if those suggesting distant* alternative parts of the country do the same when they get, say, a wedding invitation? Or they want to go to the cup final?
Alpine Anthony and I are hardly likely to arrange to arrange a pint in the Lake District. Sometimes I wonder...
*yes, I know it depends where you start from

Worth it to me to travel to avoid a wedding.
"Oh Andy and Chloe, I would love to come, but I'm in Outer Mongolia."
Not worth it to me to travel half way across the country to meet a handful of blokes I've never met, most of whom probably won't turn up.
Sometimes I wonder....

Precisement mon vieux coq.

The last bloke that wanted a meet up your way iffy was Gazzer looking for Raoul Moat!

That I would have travelled to see.
In fact, many of my colleagues did.
