Not sure if this of any interest but there is a question I have myself about this.
I had a client with a Sony Ebookreader, it would not work with one of her Windows 7 laptops but worked fine on all her other machines.
She asked me to have a look, I reinstalled drivers and checked the chipsets etc were up to date. I checked for any conflicts and problems with the USB drivers all fine. I then discovered if it was plugged in the Windows wouldn't boot properly.
So despite I knew it worked on four other PCs I decided to reply the cable on the Sony ebook reader and it solved the problem instantly.
Now my question is what electrical explanation could their be for this? I am guessing that either the laptop for some reason is giving off a lot of electromagnetic fields which is causing the cable to not to work or the voltage of the data from the usb ports is not quite right causing resistance problems on the original longer cable.
What do you think?
