Renault Koleos SUV - Cheapest way to run a new car - mikeyb
A colleague bought a renault koleos back in 2009 when the dealers got desperate and were almost giving them away. His plan was to run it into the ground so just wante as cheap as he could get. Cant recall which model it was but it was reasonable spec diesel. After a lot of haggling he agreed to take a stock model for 11.5K (list was 20 something).

2 years and 35K later he decides that he wants something a bit smaller and more economical, but is aware that he has an undesirable motor. Local Citroen garage take a look and after much "checking" agree that they could go to a part ex of 11K against a new motor.

My colleague if thrilled to have only lost 500 quid on a new motor over 2 years. I suspect that they have inflated the part ex a little to get the deal, but I guess it just goes to show that buying right in the furst place can make a big difference.

Pitty the poor sods that bought it at launch paying near list though

Did we not all tell BobbyG to keep his mullah in his pocket when he was after one of these.

Shouldn't listen to the crowds on here Bobby, they're bad for your wallet! :-)

Lost 2k on a Forester XT over 2.5 yrs, 19k miles.

Tyres were down to 3mm at the point of trade-in so that'll be 500-600 saved too.

Bought 14k, trade-in value 12k - probably could've had 13k privately but didn't want the aggro.

late 2008 to early 2009 was a goldmine for 'stock' cars that weren't selling.

Well, that rather depends on which price they gave the p/x against - if it was the Citroen's list price, then most models are available woith massive discounts so that needs to be deducted from the p/x value.
