 LGV Policing North Wales Police style. - R.P.
The A55 across north Wales is an arterial route from Dublin to the rest of Europe. For those of you that know it Holyhead has the second busiest port in the UK...(according to people around here). The consequence of this is that there is a high concentration of foreign trucks on the A55 - some flying under flags of convenience.

NWP have a Commercial Vehicle Unit of Roads Policing. I think Pat has mentioned them positively in the past. A million miles away from Brunstrom's anti speed reputation this unit has some good results.

A recent case. The value of the trucks seized seems a little low, but what would I know. What I do know as a regular user of the "55" as its known around here - I am pleased to see the regular marked and unmarked (Skoda VRS estates) cars that patrol these roads, they do tend to leave you alone unless you're doing something really silly.

Seen at least one marked A6 around here as well, stand out from the usual 5 Series Tourings.

IMHO the judge made absolutely the right decision and I would imagine that the value of the vehicles is per vehicle.

This sort of thing has been going on unchecked for many years and is the reason why foreign firms can aford to undercut British hauliers.

Only recently have the Police and VOSA been given the powers to act, and it's good to see they are both using those powers wisely.

Now all we need is the same work ethic to be applied around Stranrear, Pembroke, Hull, Dover and Folkestone.

Then, and only then we may see our own Haulage industry start to make a small recovery.

Just to make it clear, these vehicles are not maintained and the drivers are not regulated in how many hours they work.....with the blessing of their companies.
