Narrowboaters often say "it's a contact sport", though in my opinion some take it to extremes!
I was at Fradley Junction once, where Reckless apparently used to have a mooring, when a boater was trying to turn right from the Coventry canal into the lock on the Trent & Murky. The steerer could see he wasn't quite going to make it, and either pushed the throttle lever the wrong way or though that a bit more power would bring it round. It nearly mounted stone coping, and the crash and sound of breaking glass inside brought drinkers out of the Swan.
