Digital cameras and memory cards - Chris S
Towards the end of last year I was thinking of replacing my film camera with a digital one. No I am finally getting round to do it.

I've had a look at some digital cameras online and notice they make reference to a memory card.

Are these some sort of device to store the photographs that have been taken?

Do I need to get one if I'm going to immediately transfer the photos to my PC using a USB cable?

Yes the memory card is where photos are stored after they have been taken. (some cameras will have small memory inside but wont hold many photos)

Yes you need one, you cant get round it, because you wont "immediately" being transferring them to PC after each shot. You may have 20 or 30 photos on the card.

Think of the memory card as your film, and the PC as your developer.

Thanks for that. My next question was going to be "What's the difference between integral and sans disk cards?" - but I Googled it and found out they were brand names!

Sandisk memory cards, flash drives etc are excellent products.

A good place to buy such products is 7DayShop (prices include delivery). See:

If you are prepared to wade through the Clearance and Special Offers sections, you'll probably find some even cheaper:

You'll need to know first what type of memory cards any digital camera you buy uses.
