You couldn't pay me enough to go up there, and some poor folk had to use that path to carry workloads, after building it, the death toll over the years must be dreadful.

Fabulous views, I have trouble with heights so I deliberately force myself to confront it at times.
That walk is closed off BTW, you have to negotiate round the odd locked gate to get onto it.

Pal of mine has done it, but he is a keen amateur mountaineer.
He told me, as others have said, the path is blocked by two or three gates, but they are easy enough to climb over.

There was an interesting update to this trail in the sunday times a few weeks back.
The govt has dismembered parts of it to discourage walkers after 3 died on it a few years back (theres a monument to them up there if anyone fancies looking for it) the rails are basically railway tracks that were covered but in lots of places only the track remains and its rotting out of the cliff faces.
It never mentioned fines in the article that i remember and it did explain how to get started but didnt recommend anyone doing it.
I also remember the original link on the dark side a few years back.

I made myself watch it - amazing! What really got me was the way the guy filming it walked over the steel beams/rails where the concrete had gone - you can see him calmly putting left foot then right and stepping normally on what must seem like walking over a tightrope, but without a pole to help him balance.

Ouch! Getting a loft ladder for the new property?
SIL lived on her own in a detached house. She managed to knock over the steps while she was up in the loft. She threw down as much loft insulation as possible to cushion her drop - it worked. She said she had to do something, she needed the loo.

Chris, I have just read your post and reading it made me get the same feeling as watching the video. However, I have walked some (not as) serious stuff in Madeira and there I don't get the same jitters. I think the 'very close to the edge stuff' is what gets me going. Constipation? Not me.

I think that the Andalucian Junta intend to restore El Camino,
I have driven up the toad at the start of the gorge on the way to the Embalse (reservoir) a few kilometres further on.
(A nice day out with picnic tables. BBWs , swimming and paddle boats).
Just looking at it from the road made me queasy!
