Actually Bb an Arab friend told me on the phone that a Middle East paper had run a piece on Egypt entitled something like: Mummy battles the living!
He thought it was awfully good and so did I.
Egyptians, like Iraqis, see themselves as distinct from the 'Arab nation' that other countries including the largely Berber North African countries feel they belong to, whatever Gamal Nasser may have wanted them to feel. They are intelligent, world-weary, kind-hearted people who like everyone sane prefer an easy life.
