I was wondering the other day when the ban on clamping was going to come into effect, and then I happened to come across this thread today

in which people are discussing it possibly being years away.
Just wondered if anybody here had any further insight.

This legislation needs to come in as soon as possible.
Now, I've never had any problems with clampers but then I rarely park anywhere urban as I cycle everywhere local to me.
However, I believe that the law should not enable bullies and thieves to operate legally.
I feel similarly about pub and club bouncers, another so-called industry that relies on bullying and intimidation but that's another story.
Let's put the clampers clearly into the "operating illegally" field where they belong, along with drug dealers, pimps and cowboy builders.

I'd support clamping and towing if the charges had been kept reasonable - say £60 maximum.
But when you hear stories of people being charged several hundred pounds that is clearly wrong. The industry had its chance to clean up ita act and failed. It should now be banned immediately.
PS. I've never been clamped, and only had two parking tickets - one for parking facing the wrong way at night (in a line of other cars), and the other one for parking in a controlled parking zone (didn't know what they really were until I was caught)

Yes, Tigger I'd agree... I also support clamping as a last resort, otherwise the land owner has no reasonable come-back to the misuse of their land... However it has to be reasonable, though I'd say up to £100 is reasonable.

We have had an on-going issue with the same car parking in our private car park every Thursday. There is no barrier entry and installing one would be a pain, so we rely on mutual vigilance between the six companies who use the 31 spaces.
This one car parks every Thursday arriving about 9:30am and not leaving till about 7pm. As we are next to Salford University we assume the miscreant is a day release student. We have tried all forms of persuasion to stop them parking from polite notes, less polite notes stuck with Spray Mount to the windows, dropping the tyre pressures etc.
Clamping would ideal for this situation.
I have written to the DVLA to see if they will give me the registered keepers details. I will write to him and tell him that if he or any other driver of the vehicle continues to park he will receive a £50 + VAT bill each time he parks.

Block the miscreant in overnight. Or just catch them on the way in and tell them they cannot park there and the car will be removed and dragged onto the main road. I'm sure if enough people get together then you could drag a car anywhere ;-)

Who owns the car park?
Companies, or possibly partnerships in Espada's case, usually rent their premises.
If so, the car park is likely to be owned by the landlord, and therefore his responsibility.
There's no barrier, which indicates the landlord may not be bothered who parks there.
If that's so, the parker could claim he has tacit permission to park.
I've made a few assumptions there, but if they are somewhere near right, I would think carefully before moving this car.

Car park is owned by the landlord of my office. I am the landlord of both. I can do what I like. No barrier because certain companies who have spaces receive members of the public, and they park in the car park, so access must be unrestricted. I would love an electronic barrier, but the location of the car park makes it prohibitively expensive.

If you wanted to be seen as reasonable, you could release it without trying to levy a charge the first time.

Perhaps you could cover the car with festive spray snow and a silly string message along the lines of 'stop parking in my bleeding car park you ignorant &%*£*' ?
