As I went to check my account..Dart now want a minimum top up of £15.00.
I'll use what I've got, (enough for 2 crossings) and the go pay as you go.

I went pay as you go some years ago, when they changed arrangements. Got my balance refu ded as well. I don't think you get a discount any more if your'e on pre-pay?

Mine automatically comes out of my credit card for each crossing

So anyone cloning your car-reg could enjoy free crossings ? :-)

Ironic smiley noted but anybody who, like me, checks their bank account regularly would pick up a charge where one was not expected.

Had exactly that experience with the ULEZ charge in London where I was charged on a date when the car was on the drive at home.

Turned out to be a misread of a similar registration. Apart from the fact that only part of the plate was visible the car was clearly a VW and not our Berlingo.

Refunded as soon as a query was raised.

You don't even need to check your bank account. You get a nice little email saying the charge has been paid. ;-)

(TBH, I've been known to temporarily add my SiL's registration to my details when SWMBO is travelling with her to avoid any hassle.)

Don't remember an email but now the 'lingo's gone and Seoras the Superb is Euro 6 it's not something I need to worry about.

That was on Dartford Paygo.

I'll know midnight on the day they first try it, via my email.

I discovered with a Dart pre pay account it can vanish if you don't use in a year. I lost mine during Covid but eventually managed to get my balance back. I now have a PAYG account as I rarely use the Dartford Crossing. I just have to keep an eye on the cards registered with the account - especially with two of my cards being moved from Mastercard to Visa.

I too lost mine during Covid. Was initially advised that account was suspended but would be reinstated if used in the next month or two. This however was during the period when France's position regarding mandatory self isolation was changing regularly so we didn't go.

Account was subsequently closed.

Being used to not paying I forgot to pay for a crossing in 2022.

Within 72 hours I did a bit of headscrathing, remembered the sequence and paid the charge on line. Too late however and I was sent a PCN.

Informal representations to Dart Charge were successful and the PCN revoked.

Since then I've managed to cross sufficiently frequently to keep the account open.

My change from a pre-paid account to a pay-as-you-go arrangement came about as a result of the change in administration/enforcement organisation in July 2023.

There was a requirement to revalidate any top-up card (the details were not allowed to be passed over the change). If you didn't, the account was closed. Instead, I closed the account and opted for the alternative.

When I opened the account, I don't think there was a Pay-as-you go option, and only the account was "fire and forget". (Though alternatively I might have opted for the account for the discount which, as I posted above, I thought had been removed. I still think something happened, maybe a reduction in the level of discount?).
