That’s going some!
Next week I’ll be going with a gourd of other people on a jaunt to Monaco in old bangers. Once of the cars going (not mine…) is a 2009 black cab with 1.2 million miles on the clock. On its 8th engine apparently!!

I saw the story about the Vitara.
Hope for me yet...

Blimey - I know the engine is Italian but they're supposed to be good in taxis for several hundred thousand miles.

I have no idea of the provenance of any of the replacements…but I imagine as it got older they got cheaper and of lower quality! Still, let’s see how it gets on!

Those VM boat engines were not the best, I had a Scorpio diesel estate in about 1998 with the OHV 8 valve version. A bit of a rattler, slow and noisy and very poor for a luxury car even a Ford. It never actually failed in the 50,000 or so miles it had on when I sold it, although an idler fell off and released the serpentine belt at one point. This resulted in impossibly heavy brakes and steering, the brake booster ran off a vacuum pump on the alternator.
Over time it would get smokier until I shoved a full bottle of Millers in the tank which I used to do for the MoT, following which it would lay proper smoke for while and then clear. I assumed it just sooted up the injectors and messed up the spray pattern. Probably my least satisfactory car purchase of the post-banger era.
