A very familiar situation most years. Memories memories
The Thames has been in flood in the Kingston area so I was not surprised at this report.
There used to be warning signs plus " I wonder why all these spaces are alongside the river?"
It used to happen alongside Richmond bridge and opposite Richmond lock.
Ranelagh Drive has crude flood defences at both ends. They look like very high, long "sleeping policemen speed ramps".

70+ years ago it was entertainment for kids and others to watch the rising tide and folks respondingto just the roof still on view etc.
I wonder if all these get an insurance pay out?

And dont forget Putney Embankment, another classic floating cars after a few hours in the nearby boozer spot.

Highest are March* and September. However, as we are talking about the Thames here, weather plays a part at any time. High water volumes down the Thames, and high tides (specially a North Sea surge) will cause very high water all the way up to Teddington Lock (Richmond is a half lock)

(I used to be a part time assistant lock keeper at Sunbury Lock)

*The spring tide tends to be bigger

When this happens I always wonder what it does to the surface water drains - or the foul ones for that matter. When I grew up in Cardiff (Roath) in the 1950s my mother's cleaning lady came from Splott and regularly suffered from drains backing up after heavy rain.
