Went up to Ipswich today with a friend and his measuring tape so he could work out usable load volume of the above cars.

2nd impression of the Omoda 5 still hate the yucky centre console.

Jaecoo 5 way better seating position but very weird gear change just where the wipers would be on the right.

Wipers lights indicators on one stalk on the other side.

Tiggoo7 much nicer place to be and heating controls in a strip on the dashboard so no need to go into menus.
Out of the three Tiggoo by far the better.
Others opinions may vary.

"Tiggo 7"? What a ridiculous name! If you covered that hideous grill it could be just about any other suv type car.
 Jaecoo 5 Omoda 5 Tiggoo 7 - Zero
I could be tempted by the Chery Tiggo 8, but I am far from convinced by their after sales support or long term reliability, making a risky long term buy.
 Jaecoo 5 Omoda 5 Tiggoo 7 - CGNorwich
Like most cars now I think they will be mostly leased on three year deals thus avoiding concern about long term support.

Given my high annual mileage, lease deals are rarely attractive.

Having said that, I just found I can lease a Tiggoo 8 hybrid, for £3k down and £338 month for 48 months. I suppose at my age long term is no longer a factor. And it tows 1300kg

What's the mileage across 48 months.

Like you with multiple trips out and kids either side of the Wirral I'm going to be at least 15k by the time we've had Seoras a year at end January.

Had never heard of Tiggoo till I saw this.

Seems to be new makers appearing every other week.
Will add them to my list when I come to replace the X1.

I was having one of the Toyotas serviced in Guildford the other day. Wandered along the estate to get a bacon sandwich - as you do and there were a load of Omodas outside one of the showrooms.

I couldn't work out what I was looking at. Like a Range Rover, big, slab sided thing. But a lot of car for the money.

And now the Chery. well, well. Who says the British car industry is not doomed?
 Jaecoo 5 Omoda 5 Tiggoo 7 - Armstrong Sidd
According to Autocar, the Jaecoo 7 outsold the Qashqai last month.

They sold 6500 in September - 4th best seller in UK.

There's a whole bunch more of these Chinese SUVs coming. Don't think we're getting it but Geely Coolray, very similar to Skoda Karoq but half the price, gets rave reviews where it's sold.
 Jaecoo 5 Omoda 5 Tiggoo 7 - Manatee
A consequence of cars becoming more akin to washing machines and less an item of jewellery or a status symbol is that cheap functional ones are much more widely acceptable.

Where do European manufacturers with higher costs go from there?

The UK market this October splits

44.4% Petrol
25.4% BEV
13.3% HEV
12.1% PHEV
4.8% Diesel

BEVs are up 5 %age pts (25%) over last October.

UK is still imposing just 10% tariffs on Chinese cars, EU is charging up to 38% on some. USA is charging 100% tariffs. I think it's fair to say UK will be a fairly serious target for them.

I am surprised how many peolpe are prepared to ignore the fact that China is a hostile state to many western interests in their purchase of Chinese cars.

China buys Russian oil and supports them in the war in Ukraine, their economic colonialisation of poorer countries to get them into debt so they are forced to sell their resources, business espionage, etc. China is subsidising their manufacturers' car exports to drive out competition, with their workers having to work in environments that would not be allowed in the west, and that's before we get on to their treatment of minorities.

Where have the ethics in our purchasing decisions gone?

And no, I am not typing this on my Chinese made phone, but on my . But that analogy adds to my argument. We currently have multiple choices when it comes to cars. Not so with phones. I don't want the car industry to go the same way!

I suppose they are copying what we did with our mercantilist policies of yore....

Our steel industry is just one example.

>> Where have the ethics in our purchasing decisions gone?

You would be walking around naked and barefoot if you abide by ethical buying choices. And as you say, you wouldnt be posting on here either.

The British car manufacturing business is toast, destroyed by "ethical" unions and "ethical" western financial systems (and no small margin by stupid western management)

I suspect you are pretty selective about your ethics.

With a lot of cars getting software updates over the air it would be perfectly possible to send out an update which bricked the car. If the US ever does get into a war with China and calls on its allies to join in then that would be a possibility.

British manufacturers have long managed to cause widespread failure of their their vehicles without any software updates.
 Jaecoo 5 Omoda 5 Tiggoo 7 - tyrednemotional
Frankly, if China does get into a war with the US, my car being "bricked" would be fairly low down on my list of concerns.
 Jaecoo 5 Omoda 5 Tiggoo 7 - bathtub tom
With manufacturers 'renting' extras (BMW springs to mind) that can disappear without an annual fee being paid, I suspect that soon any car could be disabled by a signal.
 Jaecoo 5 Omoda 5 Tiggoo 7 - Zero
Given that most software is flakey, I dont think we need a war. And when the power grid fails, you aint going very far anyway.

In the news again today - MI5 and Security Minister reporting on Chinese efforts to spy on our government and military, how MOD staff should be careful what they say when in Chinese cars, the risk of the new super-embassy planned for close to Tower of London, and Chinese buses having 'kill switches' which could disable the fleet and cause chaos.

No doubt those happy to spend their money on Chinese cars will dismiss it as 'fake news'?
 Jaecoo 5 Omoda 5 Tiggoo 7 - CGNorwich
I have it on good authority that all Chinese washing machines have a kill switch in order to derive us of clean underwear in an emergency and thus causing widespread panic and distress.

If kill switches are a thing then they're not limited to Chinese.

If Microsoft has a kill switch for my PC do I trust them not to use it to further their commercial interests?
 Jaecoo 5 Omoda 5 Tiggoo 7 - Terry
Any product or system configured to be updated remotely over the ether is potentially capable of being corrupted or disrupted.

That the software includes such a capability would be difficult to detect. The lines of code would are unlikely to be referenced “kill switch”.

Vehicle stopping coding changes could be as simple as corrupting data from an engine sensor, or drive by wire control. Even vehicle software developed by European allies can probably be hacked.

That China has malign intent may be correct - but I am not sure I would place greater long term trust in the Koreans, US etc.

The only alternative to a connected world is to go back to a technological dark ages. Simple choice, really!

My current mobile is a Huawei mate. 7 years old bought in black friday sales. Think it was £135.. It's never let me down. Been really excellent. Would have another if they were stii relavant

Teslas can be bricked remotely. Would you trust that Nutter Musk or the Chinese who are trying to sell cars? Do you care if the Chinese know where you are?

You could of course remove or disable the Sim. Dont think war plans (even hybrid ones) are that fragile.

The Chery Tiggo 8 has been named Car of the Year 2026 and Jaecoo named as Brand of the Year.

By Car Wow! Probably based on the amount of comission they get on their sales of them?
 Jaecoo 5 Omoda 5 Tiggoo 7 - Duncan
How can it be Car of the Year 2026, when it is still 2025?
 Jaecoo 5 Omoda 5 Tiggoo 7 - Terry
It must be good - it was also 2025 car of the year in the Leasing.com awards.

I seem to remember that the Ford 3 cylinder engine was Engine of the Year about 10 years ago. It must be good.
