As usual, you only find out how good it is when required.,
Departing for distant shores next month, my cover ( which I rushed into 12 months ago) expires shortly, so any recommendations please from those who have actually needed it, particularly if on the continent.

Was with Britannia (now LV) for many years and they were mostly pretty good. Only issues were long waits on a couple of occasions but never when I was anywhere difficult. Their used to be loads of smallish local outfits who had contracts with them but latterly it's usually big companies like Crouch or Mansfield.
Skoda, who use the AA, were brilliant when called on to triage my Superb's cooling problems, less so when the loan car threw a wobbly.
Not needed a breakdown service abroad since the seventies when it was Dad at the helm.

Why would you need breakdown cover if you drive a Suzuki Vitara??

I’m with Start following recommendations on here. Never had to use it but seem well regarded.
Mrs A was with Brittania for many years. She had to call them out twice. Once was great. The second time, some years later for a different fault, was dreadful. I ended up sorting out the issue for her (it turned out to be a flat battery) and we got a substantial refund when we complained. Only anecdotal as far as anyone else is concerned but she didn’t renew. Again they seem generally well-regarded.
Another option is a bank account that includes “free” breakdown cover. Our son has a Nationwide acccount and has cover. Again, never used it though.

My neighbour called on her banks cover last month.
Got the AA to come to the car in her drive and he did a brilliant job of diagnosing the problem.
He then unfolded his towing attachment from the back of the van and then took the car to her chosen garage.
She could could have used two days of free car hire.

Last month my car insurers had offered Breakdown cover as part of the car insurance £103 extra!

It all makes my £82.00 for full European cover for the motorhome (through the insurance) look like a bargain.
