Those behind the scenes don't receive the praise that they often deserve.
Biddy Baxter implemented a procedure that recorded the salient points of all letters from viewers so that if a view wrote in more than once, the people responding were able to reference the previous letter and make the response personal.
The example given on the radio was something like a child writing in about their sick hamster and then writing in again sometime later. The person replying would include something like "I hope your hamster is feeling better?"
A logistical nightmare but made such a difference to those who had written in.
Probably a data-protection headache these days!
She also ensured that about 75% of the program's content was suggested by the viewership.
When one of the presenters was pregnant there was a back-lash from some adult viewers but no younger viewers mentioned it and she stood by the presenter.
She sounds like a thoroughly good egg.
