I am surprised that I had not come across this before since I follow multiple motoring sites.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0m8872n9gxo

Some reports that dealers cannot do the work until January 2026! Due to shortage of replacement parts.

Quite unusual for Manufacturers to issue such a Brand destroying notice.

I cannot believe that a similar problem exists with Peugeot models and other Stellantis brands.

The good news for me is that the C3 Picasso 2016 does not have the problem, despite being in the listed range. Presumably made in a different factory? or did not use Takata airbags?

Since I was thinking of getting shot it may even be good news, shortage of of low mileage C3s may push up the the trade in? But there again the brand issue may depress the prices?

I guess it shows that they take the issue seriously.

The last time I recall this sort of thing happening was with the Suzuki Celerio I think when a car magazine tested the emergency stop on the newly released car and the brakes failed.

Dealers were ordered to go around and collect the cars.

The recall's been in place for a few months now. I know a couple of Citroen techs who have got the 1.2 hour book time down to about 30 minutes - a nice little earner and a good way to push the maximum number of cars through as quickly as possible.

The Stop-Drive notice was issued after a fatal crash in Reims, France on 16 June. A 37-year-old mother driving a C3 swerved to avoid an HGV and collided with a barrier triggering the airbag. The car continued for a short distance before coming to rest, but the driver suffered catastrophic head injuries from the metal shards released when the airbag detonated, and died shortly afterwards. Her 14-year-old daughter was uninjured.

There have been a whole bunch of airbag related deaths in French Territories but they were put down to high temperature and humidity being significant.

Seems now there's been one on France itself then that's set them off (no pun intended).

"The Association of British Insurers (ABI) says you should always let your insurer know if your vehicle has been recalled and follow any guidance it gives you."

That feels like it'd be a bit of a pointless conversation. And they'd probably increase your premium!

An item about how people are affected in practice:

The broker that I use has finally got round to sending out a generic email warning all Citroen owners, and particularly C3 owners not to drive since cover (and any claim) may be impacted. Suggesting the owners should log on to the Citroen site to see if their model is affected.

Needless to say they were not not offering advice to suspend cover and offer refunds.

I have printed off a a screen shot from the Citroen site showing VIN and not affected status.

Just back from the hols where I met someone who works in Toyota's Derbyshire factory.

Now we all think of Toyota as being well built/reliable but I was completely unaware that they currently have a 'voluntary recall' to check the chassis of Hi-Luxes up to 12 years old and either rust-proof them or replace as necessary. Apparently the rust-proofing of the ones built in South Africa was defective. Where chassis renewal is required it is a 40-hour job. Ouch! They have apparently set aside part of the factory to deal with this.

Now on the one hand, good on Toyota for such a comprehensive (voluntary) recall. But on the other hand I wonder whether potentially unroadworthy pick-ups should not also have a STOP DRIVING NOTICE? I've never had an airbag go off in 45 years of driving, but I have seen the implications of rust-weakened vehicles in collisions.

I would like to hope that the annual MoT would highlight chassis rust on a Toyota truck

On the otherhand the Citroen airbag problem would never be spotted at a Service or an MoT.

There was an accident where the airbag went off. Metal from the airbag killed the driver.

Looks as though a whole set of other models are now 'grounded':

They are doing pretty well though if they have swapped out the airbags on 2/3 of the affected vehicles, some of which are over 10 years old.
