So for months the Junc 6-2 has been down to 50mph with traffic improvements .
For the last week ,there are no roadworks , but the speed limit of 50mph is still in operation with the gantry saying . Test in progress “ what the hell does that mean ??
Is this the way for the LIEBOR party to introduce compulsory 50mph on motorways as they need the drivers fines to cover the hotels and all other costs ??

Also Jnct 13-16 why does it happen that it’s always restricted to 50mph , despite in the last 4 weeks , on the 12+ occasions I’ve used that stretch there’s never been anything to warrant the reduction

Well as you never seem to be able to see or read road signs, perhaps they are trying to get your attention?

Used it twice today, it was fine.

Yes I saw those messages coming along the M25 on Sunday evening.

It is of course nothing to do with the government but I found the messages genuinely confusing: "Test in progress, speed limits apply". My question was what speed limit applies? The normal 70- or the 50 on the gantry signs? If the later, why bother with the message? In which case should one therefore imply that the 'normal' speed limit (70) applies?

Just do what everyone else does on that section, or any section. Ignore the speed limit except at the ones enforced by the HADECS cameras.

50 limit on M1 J16-19 while additional emergency laybys were installed was lifted in late March.

Now back to normal all lane running with variable limit.

Went round the M25 from M1 to M20 on Saturday and returned via M26/M25/M40 on Monday.

Test remains in progress in SW quadrant as above and also for an extended section on the east side around the two cut/cover tunnels.

Explanation is here:

In brief the limits are for safety while new equipment for detecting stopped vehicles is tested.
