Its a surprisingly widespread, but little know side effect of Colon Cancer surgery. I was fortunate, my Trust was well clued up about it, with a support program* Mine is more or less under control now, with the aid of drugs.

Having a fast metabolism low cal etc was never an issue but I was still clenching...
Like others, I had not heard of LARS. However, after my bowel cancer surgery (a relatively small excision, I believe) I did have similar symptoms that could have been attributed to nerve damage. When I raised these with the surgeon he examined me and found no abnormality, but it sounds as if he had no idea about LARS and I was offered no treatment.
In my case, things have settled down now I'm on a non-inflammatory diet. Any occasional flare-ups are manageable.
