 New Kindle - Ambo
My old Kindle no longer holds its charge well. Would Amazon be able to cope with a new Paperwhite version as well or would the old one have to be deregistered?

It would in fact be nice if both could be run alternatively, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom.

Short answer. Yes you can have multiple devices on the one account, and share content between all of them.
