I did a photo-shoot in the mid 90s on a book about 'survival' or something like that and one of the items was a Swiss Army knife, not red but khaki-camouflage coloured. I was given it at the end of the shoot as usually happens (cookery books are fab for that).
It stayed in my pocket 24/7, my best friend, until the towers fell. Then it had to go in the hold luggage when flying. But it was never a problem checking in or going through security before that although when I flew to NY in '99 that had to go in the hold luggage too. I don't carry it around now but it's always handy and it goes on every holiday.
I love that knife, it's sitting on my desk. The most useful thing I've ever owned, every appendage has been used a million times. It's battered, has chipped blades and the tooth pick and tweezers are long gone. Haven't stabbed any teenagers with it either, I must be getting old fashioned.
