I was recently asked by a lawyer to track down some long lost relatives (not of mine) who had recently become beneficiaries in a not insignificant will.

I managed to find those concerned. (Sort of, two dead, one living in the US, one living in the UK).

You can imagine the message "I am in a foreign country, you have no idea who I am, and you have been left money in a will and all I need are your details".

Why would anybody be suspicious of that?

Find a local lawyer/solicitor with associates or correspondent offices in the US and UK. These can then contact the beneficiaries directly.

I am well aware of how to deal with such things, and it is now all in process.

The point was the irony and amusement, not a need to know how to deal with it.

It's quite exciting actually. Having found the beneficiaries I am now helping track down properties and other assets around the world.

Fascinating stuff. With a bit of lateral thinking it's far easier than one might have thought.
