I'm avoiding writing up a report, because it will be bad news.

So here goes... acronyms with a word added that's not needed and should annoy but really doesn't...

E.g. ATM Machine = Automatic Teller Machine Machine.

ATM Machine.
LPG Gas.
VIN Number.
DAT Tape.
SAM Missile.
PIN Number.
RAM Memory.
ROM Memory.
AC Current.
VGA Adaptor.
DC Current.
HIV Virus.
COBOL Language.
ISA Account.
LCD Display
RF Frequency.
UPC Code.
VAT Tax.
RPI Index.
CPI Index.
DC Comics?
DOS System.
ISBN Number.
KFC Chicken.
OPEC Countries.

Any more?

Blast! He beat me to it. They are abbreviations - mostly, not acronyms.

An acronym is a word made up of a series of intials, like NAAFI, or OPEC.

I thought we had done all this, long ago?
