Win 10 - rip and burn audio CDs - John Boy
I'm using Windows Media Player for this. Everything's fine if I burn onto an audio CD. I happen to have a lot of DVDs that I'm unlikely to use and that's where the problem arises. The software burns them as Data disks which don't auto play. What am I doing wrong?

Nothing, they're different. Different lasers, different density, different format.

If you're playing the burned DVD in a computer then you'll be fine, other than the lack of autoplay, because it will read it as data and then deal with it. But they won't play in any CD player. In fact, unless you use a DVD format to play the audio channel, they won't play in a DVD player either.

I think the relevant standard was DVD-Audio but it never really caught on.

What are you actually trying to achieve?

I need to make copies of audio CDs for someone to play on a portable DVD player and was hoping to use up some blank DVD disks. Thanks for replying. I'll just get some more blank audio CDs.
