I might be changing the kitchen this year, so may well have a number of things to ask.
The first one is as above - are pyrolytic ovens any good?
I don't mind getting out the over cleaner stuff and leaving it overnight but does a pyrolytic really not need cleaning at all?

We have had them over several years. The pyrolytic action reduces fats etc to a grey dust which is wiped out with a damp cloth very easily. Much less pfaff than a caustic gel.

Waste of money, not all the crooks and nannies of the oven are so treated, (on the cheaper ones, not even all the panels) so at sometime you are going to need to give it a deep clean, and in the process destroy some of the properties of the panel linings.
I go with fan ovens, with simple controls and easy to obtain and easy to change heating elements.

I have a Neff one, purchased by the late SWMBO 5 years ago when we did a kitchen refurb, cost the thick end of a grand if I remember correctly, all electronic controls and gizmos, specialist programmes etc
It was only when I was trying to reset the time to BST last month that I found out that it was self cleaning and gave it a try. Basically takes two hours at v high temp. to burn all the muck and grease to a fine white ash which wipes clean easily.
Not having read the manual meant that I left the racks and supports in when they should have been removed so they look a bit less shiny and a bit more bent than they did.
I gave up trying to reset the time....
My new lady friend has an older style Neff oven and is very envious.

As my wife does all the time... no wonder the racks don't run smoothly on the rails..

I suspect the racks are left in, because they can be beastly things to remove. The self-cleaning on ours works very well indeed.

We've (that is, she's if I'm honest) found the intermediate option of catalytic liners fine for years. As Z says, unless every exposed part of the cavity is pyrolytic it doesn't obviate deep cleans.

Depends if you have money to burn.

We've just got a new Neff jobby after 15 years. Pyrolytic one too. Its a great piece of equipment and the deep clean thing works well. Its beyond my area of risk to suggest that we could/should have had a 'normal' one.
